The 2008 Wallwork Regatta was held
on July 26th & 27th
We were teased both days with the thought of no wind, but were able to get in
all 5 races with what turned out to be as good a weather weekend as we have ever had
for a regatta. The 1st day didn't get started until 11:00am, when the
winds finally showed up out of the west at mostly 5 to 10 mph. Two races
were run with a break for lunch and a 3rd race following that. The second day was
almost a carbon copy of the 1st with races starting at 11:00, this time with the
winds out of the East at 5-10 mph and building to 10-15 mph. Shifty winds
made it an extra challenge for the race committee to get the courses set.
The Saturday evening banquet feathered "Doc and the Scrubs" (a swing band from Detroit Lakes) and the good weather continued into the evening so everyone could share stories of the days events. There were plenty of stories to tell from the shifty winds causing a lot of commotion during the starts, to some unintentional swimming caused by a rare gust of air, to spinnakers doing everything but what they were supposed to do.
Thank you to Rhonda Loberg for being this year's Regatta Chairman and organizing a great event!
