7/18/10  A nice breeze out of the NW at 10 to 15 mph brought out 9 boats in the Open Fleet at 3 boats in the C Fleet.  In the C Fleet, Burgum Family/LP1 won both races and in the Open fleet, Mike Ostbye/Pursuit won both races. Of special note, Kent Deardorff came in 2nd in both races of the Open fleet in just his 3rd time out and Thysells won their 1st race in the Handicap series.

Here's Kent doing an excellent job of keeping up with some of the faster boats!

7/11/10  Gusty winds out of the North from 10 to 20 made for interesting racing.  Both fleets ran a double windward-Leeward course with each race taking about 40 minutes  In the C fleet, Gary Ostbye/LP7 won both races in a 3 boat fleet.  There were 9 boats in the open fleet.  Peltiers won the 1st race while Mike Ostbye won the 2nd race in which 4 boats finished within 45 seconds of each other.

Everyone is in the thick of it during the 2nd race!!

7/4/10 The only info I have is from the Score sheet.  Looks like in the C Fleet, there were 4 boats racing and Steve Foss won the C Scow Cup Race.  In the Open Fleet, there were 9 boats and Mike Ostbye won the Open Cup Race.  Sorry, no pictures from that day.

Youngest crew out there!6/27/10 Today's winds of 15 to 20 out of the NW made for quick racing.  In the C fleet, 3 boats showed up for the 1st race which Gary Ostbye/LP7 won and two boats raced the 2nd race which Roger Stadum/P5 won.  In the Open fleet, there were 6 boats with Reed and Kent Deardorff winning the 1st race on their 1st time out and in the 2nd race, it was Brad and Carol Schlossman taking top honors.  For the 2nd week in a row, there was about one second between finishes of a couple of boats.  As a reminder, next Sunday will be the 4th of July Cup race starting at 1:00pm and this will be the only race.

Dan Sprouls has his grand daughter, Mady (9) and her friend Baylee (10) out on the race course, making them the youngest crew out there.

Gary & Mike6/20/10  Light winds out of the SE made for a relaxing race.  In the C fleet, Gary Osbye/LP7 showed up late and alone, but since he was the only boat in the fleet, easily took both races.  There were 6 boats in the Open fleet, Mike Ostbye/Pursuit won both races.  Not quite the turnout of Saturdays "Sail Fest", which had 13 boats.

Gary is a little bored with no one else in his fleet, but gets to watch his brother Mike put up a spinnaker.

C start6/13/10 Winds started out brisk, but dropped to 10 mph out of the NW early on in the 1st race.  With the pin end hugely favored, boats were piling up at the pin end during the starts (sort of the opposite of last week) to keep things interesting.  There were 3 boats in the C fleet competing for the Ostbye Cup which went to Gary Ostbye/LP7.  Jeff Schlossman/LP2, being late for the start of the cup race, started on time for the 2nd race and won that one.  The Open fleet had a turnout of 8 boats with Mike Ostbye winning both of those races.

Can you tell which end of the starting line was favored?

Tommy6/6/10  A healthy breeze out of the NW at 15 to 20 mph made for fast racing and multiple tip-overs.  Gary Ostbye was the 1st to go over, not to be outdone by Tommy Stadum who topped it off with a full "Turtle".  Great way to get the boat cleaned up for the season!!!  Jeff Schlossman (LP2) won both of the C fleet races while in the Open fleet, Mike Ostbye (Pursuit) won the 1st race with the second race going to Brad and Carol Schlossman (Zing).

Here Tommy is with a front row seat for watching the races.  Not sure where Roger went, but maybe for some popcorn and refreshments.

5/29/10  2010 got off to a much better start!!!  The Memorial Day race was actually run on Memorial Day with a nice breeze out of the west.  There were 5 boats in the Open Fleet with Mike Ostbye/Pursuit coming in 1st.  In the C Fleet, there were 3 boats with Burgum Family/LP1 coming in 1st.

Sorry, no photographer on duty that day.

8/23/09  Finally some nice weather!  South winds at about 10mph and mostly sunny skies was a pleasant change.  The C fleet started with 5 boats and Ben Burgum (LP1) won both races.  In the Open fleet, 6 boats started.  Bob Leonard was on a roll after winning his 1st race last time out, he won the 1st race today.  In the Second race Brad and Carol Schlossman came in 1st.

Linda Ostbye was out on the race course today (it's been awhile)  Unfortunately about 10 seconds after this picture, something broke at the top of the mast and they had to retire.

8/9/09  Today brought light breezes out of the west.  Of course it was the most steady before, after and between races!!!  There were 7 boats in the Open Fleet and 3 in the C Fleet.  In the C Fleet, Rick Burgum (M9) won the 1st race and Burgum Family (LP1) won the 2nd race.  In the Open fleet, Bob Leonard won the 1st race (That was his first win....Congratulations!!!) and Chris Bredlow won the 2nd race sailing his Laser.  At 75, he's the oldest person to win a race on Pelican Lake!!!

Chris Bredlow, going downwind in the 2nd race.  Standing up to see past the cruisers next to him!

8/2/09  Nice breeze out of the SE at 5-10 (most of the time).  There were 5 boats in the C fleet and 7 boats in the Open Fleet.  Gary Ostbye won the 1st race and David Schlossman won the 2nd race in the C-Fleet.  Mike Ostbye won the Open Fleet.

Not sure how this happened on such a calm day, but it looks like Steve is laughing because Gary got wet and he didn't!!!

7/19/09 After a very cold week (water temperature dropped to 65 degrees) today brought sunny skis and warmer temperatures. Winds were out of the SW and then SE at about 10 mph.  The C fleet was missing most of their boats to a regatta on Minnetonka.  David Schlossman won both races, although he was the only one in the second race.  There were 9 boats in the Open Fleet with Mike Ostbye winning the 1st race and Reed Deardorff winning the 2nd race (his first win on Pelican Lake__Congratulations!!)

With a big wind shift before the start of the 2nd race, it turned into an interesting drag race.

7/12/09  East winds today at 5 to 10 mph.  This was the biggest turnout of the year, with 6 C-Scows and 10 in the Open Fleet.  In the C Fleet, Gary Ostbye won the 1st race, which is also designated the PLPOA Cup and Roger Stadum won the 2nd race.  Mike Ostbye won the Open fleet races.

Not sure if Brad is Racing or getting ready to ride a horse!

7/5/09 With light and variable winds, it was a challenge just getting one race in.  There were 3 boats in the C fleet with Burgum Family coming in 1st. In the Open fleet there were 6 boats, with Mike Ostbye finishing 1st.

7/4/09  The 4th of July cup race was run in variable winds, with the course finally set up going to the west.  In the C fleet Burgm Family came in 1st and in the Open fleet Mike Ostbye came in 1st.

Evan Furr napping while waiting for the wind to return!!

6/28/09  No Race.  Too Windy AGAIN!!!  (¡Demasiado ventoso!  otra vez!!!)

6/21/09  Finally got some racing in!!  The 1st race was called the Memorial Cup race.  In the C fleet, Burgum Family (LP1) came in 1st and in the Open fleet Mike Ostbye (Pursuit) came in 1st.  The 2nd race was call the Ostbye Cup in the C fleet and  Roger Stadum won that one.  In the Open fleet, Mike Ostbye came in 1st.  The 2nd race finished in a steady rain, so it was a challenge for Dan Sprouls, who volunteered to run the races, to keep the results dry while he was picking up buoys.  Thanks Dan, for a well run race!

Bob's new crew Chris and Franco talking about their strategy (or maybe not) during the race!!!

Bob is trying to ignore them both!!
